Quikmaps introduces new icon sets!

I’ve received email after email asking about the set of marker icons provided by Quikmaps. Everyone, it seems, would like a new icon added to the panel.

Time to put those demands to rest… I’ve collected a number of freeware icon sets, provided by the folks at the Tango Desktop Project (a new “global” linux desktop icon project, very cool), and Fast Icon.com, and added them to the quikmaps editor.

I’m particularly a fan of the cartoonish people and animals from Fast Icon.com. Thought ladybugs were nice, innocent, pretty insects? Watch out for the monster bugs at Niagara Falls!

Very nice to have a much brader liberty for Icons.
I would love to know if you plan in the duture to have a function to “upload” a gif/jpg to personalize even more icon.

    Hi Harry,

I’ve seen your wifi list — very cool, and one of the best uses of quikmaps that I’ve seen.

I’ve thought about uploading images for icons. It’s possible, and one of many good ideas that will hopefully be implemented some day.

    Thanks Ken,
I am very pleased with quikmaps.
I hope one day (it will come I am sure) we will make a bit of money to pay a 50 or 100 €uros for it.

Perhaps one (small but effective) limit is the time to display. Why not in the future propose to pay for companies that want a ‘very speedy’ display ot maps:
    - 10 or 20 or 30 dollars/€ for a garanty display of 1 second.
    - Free for a display of 5-8 seconds (todays time to display)

    Thus you have a dual business model;
    - Free to get know
    - Payed for companies [they do care about that]

    Au revoir
    Harry, Paris

    Harry,

Your business model suggestion is not lost on me. It gets more complicated, however, because charging for access to pages containing google maps requires a google maps enterprise licence.
