Lonely Planet TV Maps Upgrade

Yesterday we flipped the switch, publishing a series of updates to LonelyPlanet.tv. Among other things, these updates include a visual redesign, groups / friends, and, a front-page maps tab. Go check it out.

The focus of this little announcement, of course, is the new maps tab, the contents of which you can see here. We’ve made some serious changes to the maps offering, adding a set of tabs on the left side that you can use to turn on / off and browse various layers of Lonely Planet content. You can now explore videos, destinations, hotels and hostels (with on-line map-based bookings), places to see, eat, drink, shop, and otherwise explore, and a cool new airports layer which queries Kayak for recent flight prices, all of which link out to various related Lonely Planet information. Happy travel dreaming!

We’ve also recharged our widgets (click on the ‘embed’ button), so you can post one of these new fancy maps on your own website, like this:

LonelyPlanet.tv is only the first place these new maps have appeared and we have a few more in the works - stay tuned for something facebookish, coming very soon, which will *likely* (hint!) include some sort way to share travels…
