Portfolio
‘Doodle on Google’. Or, alternatively, ‘Maps for the Masses’. Allows site visitors to annotate Google maps using an interface reminiscent of simple paint or image editing applications. After annotating a map, users may save the maps for later editing, share the map by way of a URL, or post the map to any website. All without knowing a lick of JavaScript.
Role: Everything. I even designed the logo.

We call it ‘Birding 2.0′. More specifically, Geobirds is a social networking destination for North American birders which enables them to share sightings, birding hotspots, and clubs on a Google maps canvas. Also provides localized field guides for any location in Canada or the United States, a location-nuanced click-and-colour identification tool we’ve called Birdbrain, and interactive range maps generated from birding survey data.
Role: Technical guru. If it’s there, my fingers were on the code…

If you’ve ever traveled off the beaten path, you probably had a Lonely Planet guide with you. Lonely Planet is far and away the world’s most popular provider of guidebooks for independent travelers. Lonely Planet is also a digital content provider, with a classified ad registry, accommodation booking services, travel forums, image sharing, and so many other things I can’t keep track of them.
Role: Digital mapping consultant / developer. Currently designing and developing a mapping platform for exploring and engaging travel content.
URL: http://lonelyplanet.com. Installations: Lonely Planet TV, Lonely Planet Haystack, and Facebook.
Other current / previous projects: A fleet tracking system for Total Trucking Management Ltd., the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s International Health Division, University of Toronto’s Ptolemy Project, and my own mobile phone tracker.
